From the past fiscal year 2019/20, the government of Nepal has made it necessary for all salaried personnel in both private and government enterprises to register and obtain a PAN (permanent account number). This is done to maintain track of taxes paid by people as well as revenue leakages. The possession of a PAN identifies the person as a taxpayer in Nepal. It is free of charge and cannot be altered or renewed once given.
